Caoimhín Ó Flannagáin

Artist, Anthropologist, Educator, Facilitator and Event Organiser

My name Caoimhín Ó Flannagáin (aka Kevin Flanagan). I am an Irish artist, anthropologist, educator, facilitator, and event organizer whose work focuses on social movements, digital culture, participatory democracy, cooperatives, and the solidarity economy. I have a particular interest in creative, arts-based, and participatory research methods. In 2018, I received the prestigious Government of Ireland Postgraduate Scholarship, and in 2022, I was awarded a Doctorate in Anthropology from Maynooth University for my thesis, Commoning the City. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from the University of Ulster, where I specialized in drawing, photography, performance and media art. I have taught Anthropology at Maynooth University and Political Science at the University of Girona. With over 20 years of experience as an educator, facilitator, and event organizer, I have collaborated with artists, activists, and grassroots community-led projects both in Ireland and internationally. A member of self-organized artist collectives and hacker spaces, I am currently part of SolidNetwork, the network for the cooperative and solidarity economy in Ireland. Passionate about empowering communities through creativity and collaboration, I am committed to inspiring action and fostering meaningful social change.
